Harvey Whitefield Scott was an editor and historian in 19th-century Portland. He was born in Illinois on Febuary 1st, 1828, and settled in Yamhill County with his family in 1852. He died following surgery on August 7, 1910, in Baltimore, Maryland. Scott had been editor of the Oregonian from 1866 until 1872. He edited the "History of Portland, Oregon" which was published in 1890.

There is a statue of Harvey Scott on top of Mount Tabor, and Harvey Scott Elementary School in Northeast Portland is named after him.
