So you want to create a new event. Great!

Here's some simple steps.

Decide on a page name

To fit with the current formatting, each event needs its own unique "event page".

Event page names are requested in the following format:

Short_Event_Name_Day_MonthAsName_Year

( This is the same format the wiki itself uses by default when displaying dates. )

For example:

Decide where to put your event

If your event is within the next week, consider adding your event to the section Current Events

If your event is more than a week away, consider adding your event to the section Upcoming Events

Add your event page

Adding current events

Within the Current Events section you will see links that look like:

{{:Local Banks Occupy 04 November 2011}}

That syntax expands/includes your event directly onto the main page.

( Note: there are two curly braces '{', followed by a colon ':' )

Adding upcoming events

Within the Upcoming Events section you will see links that look like:

* [[Local Banks Occupy 04 November 2011]]

That syntax will create a bulleted list of links, and your event will be one of those events.

( Note: there is an asterisk followed by two square braces '[' )

Edit your event page

After you add your event page to the appropriate section of the Occupy Portland Events page, all you have to do is save the page. You will get a link colored in red that will take you to your new event page so that you can edit it.

Example:

If you edit an existing event, you can see how they are formatted.

For example: Edit Local Banks Occupy

The Template:Occupy Portland Event has more information on the standard formatting used.
