The Hoyt Arboretum is part of Washington Park in Southwest Portland. It is open daily from 6am - 10pm. There are over 1000 species of trees and plants located in 187-acre refuge. The Arboretum has 21 different trails, covering 12 miles.
On March 22nd, 2010, around 3pm, Portland Police Bureau Officer Jason Walters shot and killed Jack Collins, a homeless man wielding a "razor knife" near the restrooms of the Arboretum[1].
