The Burnside Bridge carries Burnside Street across the Willamette River. It was built in 1926 and carries about 56,000 vehicles per day. [1]

Bridge Design

The Burnside Bridge is the only Willamette River bridge to be designed with the help of an architect. This was a result of the early 20th century City Beautiful Movement, a philosophy of architecture and urban planning with the intent of introducing beautification and monumental grandeur into cities. Its influence can be seen in the Italian Renaissance towers on the bridge. [2]
The bridge is a double leaf Strauss style bascule lift. Its largest span is 266.1 ft, total length is 856 ft, deck width is 67.9 ft, and vertical clearance above the deck is 17.3 ft. [1]
