[improve]

Purpose

Buy Nothing Day (BND) is an international day of protest against consumerism observed by social activists.

BND will be celebrated in America this year on November 25th, the Friday after Thanksgiving. Internationally it is recognized the day following: November 26th.

This event is sponsored annually by Adbusters. The following quote is from a 2009 interview with Lauren Bercovitch from Adbusters' Vancouver:

Consumerism, at any time, is destructive. If everyone in the world were to consume like North America, then we would need five planets to sustain our lifestyle.

It's obviously not a sustainable lifestyle, what we're doing.

The foundation asks people to stop buying anything for 24 hours.

We want people to start thinking about the environment we consume, the water we consume, think about where food comes from and think about other ways we impact the planet...

When you start buying again, buy local goods from local businesses whenever you can. Keeping your purchases local supports and strengthens your community.
