Purpose

Change the City Charter so the Portland Police become more directly accountable.

Community members have organized as a response to police misconduct. We seek to amend the city's governing document. We will prevail upon at least 15 Charter Review Commissioners to forward our proposals the November 2012 ballot. We will encourage voters to amend the Charter.

Join us for the second meeting of the Police Accountability Subcommittee of the Charter Review Commission.

Work groups have identified a few areas of mutual interest.

  • Banning Specific Police Practices
  • Designing Grand Jury and Independent Prosecutor Processes
  • Making Civilian Oversight More Effective

Interest has also been expressed in work force composition, testing, training & policies.
