The Swift Meat Packing Company was operated by Swift & Co., and housed its executives at workers in the company town (now neighborhood district) of Kenton. The meat packing plant itself was located outside of the city limits due to city ordinance. This development had been actively promoted by Benage S. Josselyn, the former president of the Portland Railway Light and Power Company. Not only was the plant served by one of the company's streetcar lines, Josselyn was also president of the Kenton Construction Company.

The Swift Meat Packing Company closed its plant in 1966.
