Welcome to this quasi-meta-page about the theoretical implications of civic wikis. Wiki-technology has far been shown to be what could perhaps be termed a "disruptive technology" when applied to encyclopedia-like reference-works. Wiki-technology is now being applied to the realm of books. These projects have been done under open-license, such as the Creative Commons Share-Alike Attribution license. Now wiki-technology is beginning to be applied in a civic sense. What are the implications of this? Wikis have begun to be used to collaborative author potential legislative bills... by citizens. What is the potential of this? What are the limits to the way that wikis can be used by local communities to facilitate communication and idea sharing? All of this can be explored here.
